Solos are in trombone 2 and bass.
5 reeds, 4 trumpets, 3 trombones, 1 bass trombone, accordion (optional maybe if you have violin), guitar, piano, bass, drums, and Brazilian percussion is essential (1 or 2 players). The clarinet in reed 4 can easily be played 8va on tenor.
Recorded on The Thompson Fields, "Lembrança" was inspired by the Brazilian samba schools of Rio. It has quite a bit of percussion, and has passages that ritard while the subdivision of the samba inversely, doubles up, giving the feeling of slowing down, but becoming more rhythmically dense at the same time. I've included some streamed video of interviews, and a couple of extra mixes that will help you extract the sound of the horns when you follow the score. I also included a mix with just the rhythm section that will help you better hear what they are doing. This is my only recorded bass solo (by Jay Anderson) and it's a beauty. I wanted to give him something really unique to play over – something that showed off his lyricism. There's a lot to explore here, and I hope you'll enjoy all the extra ArtistShare® content that's included.
