Solo in alto 1. Certainly this could be opened up.
Scored for 5, 4, 4 plus rhythm, but also playable by 3 reeds (2 altos, 1 tenor), 2 trumpets and 1 trombone.
This medium-easy samba chart was originally published by Kendor Music in 1989 and I’m happy that we were able to re-release it here. "Prairie Dance" has solo space for alto 1 and is a great chart for a middle school or early high school band.
For all these easy-band pieces, the instrumentation is typical big band: 5 saxes with no doubles, 4 trumpets, 4 trombones, 4 rhythm. But all charts can be played with as few as 3 saxes (alto, alto, tenor), 2 trumpets, 1 trombone, and 3 rhythm. This makes these pieces easy to adapt to almost any instrumentation you may have at your disposal. All rhythm parts are completely written out, but also have chord changes, so your rhythm section can try coming up with their own fills and comping. The improvised solos are also written out with chord changes, so beginning improvisers may rely on the written lines provided or they may give their own improvised solo a try.
